Meet Stone from Stone Creek Valley

We are excited to partner with our friend, Stone Nichols, to bring you wholesome eggs. We thought you would enjoy “meeting” Stone in his own words as he shares a bit about himself and his farm.

I knew since I was young I wanted to be a farmer. I acquired my first set of chickens when I was five years old. At the time my family lived in Lindsborg, KS. The city had a six chicken limit. Although I only had six chickens,  I thought I was a big chicken farmer.

My family enjoyed the satisfaction of eating the healthy eggs my chickens produced because we knew what they ate.  My love for chickens and gardening grew as I grew older.

In 2021, my family moved to the country near Assaria, KS. On the property, there was a massive chicken coop with electricity.  My dream of having a chicken farm came true! That year I bought 70 chicks and started my small egg business. My flock consists of a variety of hens. I enjoy the beauty that is displayed in the variety of natural egg colors with each gathering.

Over the years the produce that my family bought at the store started tasting like chemicals. We knew this could not be healthy for us and we began producing our own food before a health crisis hit. I was more motivated than ever to start learning how to produce healthier food including  beef, fruits, and vegetables. Producing more nutritious food by not using chemicals has been an exciting experience.

Doing countless hours of research on producing organic food helped us find many different methods. Some of them are rotational grazing, Cover cropping in the garden to attract beneficial insects, and producing organic fertilizer. After many failures and success I wanted to offer healthier local food for other families as well. It is my  hope that at Stone Creek Valley and Pokey Cow Farm you will begin to notice a change in health for your families.
