Dad’s Apple Crisp
This is a childhood staple right here. We would get a bunch of apples and pretty soon my dad would held to the kitchen and mix up an apple crisp for us. Smelling it bake and the scalded feeling of eating it way too hot are all apart of the memories!
I love how simple it is to make and it is a fun project for Eva and I to do together. Delicious hot or cold, you can top it with ice cream, whipped cream, or (our favorite when it is hot) pour milk over it and eat it like cereal!
Ingredients:
Apples or 1 quart of Apple Pie Filling
Cinnamon
Oatmeal
Brown Sugar
Flour
Butter or Oil
Recipe:
4 cups apples or 1 quart of pie filling
1-2 tsp cinnamon
Cut the apples and core them. (You can peel them too, I just usually don’t.) Slice into bite size pieces and put in an 8 inch square pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon. If using pie filling, dump the can into the 8 inch square pan and omit the cinnamon.
3/4 cup quick oatmeal
1/2 cup brown sugar
1,2 cup flour
1/4 cup melted butter or oil
Mix together until crumbly and spread over the top of the apples. Bake at 350 degrees.
For fresh apples, bake for approximately 45 minutes. It really depends on the kind of apples you are using. You want the apples to be soft and the topping to be brown.
For apple pie filling, bake for 20 minutes until topping is brown and the pie filling is bubbling
