Meet the Girls

I want to introduce you to our milk cows. Each one has her own personalities, quirks, and endearing traits and I wanted to share a bit about each one with you :)

Betsy is laid back, easy going, and the boss. I am haven’t been quite sure how all that goes together, but she does it effortlessly :) She is our largest cow, so that probably has something to do with it. She leads the herd and keeps everyone else in line, making sure every new comer knows she is in charge. She also provides you with your A2 milk :)

Ricotta is our oldest cow in the herd at seven years. She keeps us shaking our heads and laughing at her “maturity” and “wisdom”. She operates with the assumption that she knows every trick in the book and can read your mind. Usually not, but she likes to use it as an excuse to misbehave if she can!

Apple is the smallest of our full grown cows. She kind of bops along in the middle of the herd pecking order and is a bit goofy. Whenever the water tank would get low, Apple would stick her head in it and walk off, dragging the tank with her head. Tim would have to go retrieve it and fill it up. Apple was Ricotta’s first calf (baby cow).

Doni is loaned to us by a friend. She is our only Ayrshire cross (the rest are Jersey crosses). She is sweet, quiet, and goes with the flow. Doni is currently expecting a calf! When her calf is born she will join the rest of the cows in providing you with amazing raw milk.

Bambi isn’t quite a year old. We bought her with her mother, Ricotta. She loves head rubs and back scratches (Tim was providing them in the picture). You have to watch out for the little horns though! She is growing like a weed and will join our other girls giving you milk in a year or two.

I couldn’t leave out the bull (male cow) :) Mr. Necessity sticks very close to the cows, keeping a watchful eye on them. Milking time is his least favorite since he isn’t allowed in to the barn. He stands as close as he can and moos. Almost like he is complaining about how long it is taking. He is very easy going and mellow.
