Lost & Found

Last Monday Tim called me, “I can’t find the calf anywhere, and her mama doesn’t know where she is either.” The call made a knot in my stomach. “Where could she be?” I wondered. “She is just a day old, how far could she have gotten?”

Calves will sometimes wander off and then instinctually lay down not moving or making a sound. They will simply wait for mama to find them. There are several different pastures, a couple of cedar tree wind breaks, a creek, a milo field, and a main road. Where would we even start looking???

Bekah was asleep and supper was in the oven so I really couldn’t lend a hand. I wanted to go so bad, but all I could do was pray. Tim had already been looking for probably an hour before he called me. It seemed impossible.

I fed the girls supper and we went outside to play. No news from Tim. About an hour after he called he showed up at the house for supper. I thought for sure he had finally called it quits and that was that.

“Well,” he said. “I found her.”

“WHAT??? WHERE?”

“Way out in the milo field. I just happened to walk down a row close to where she was laying and saw her. I don’t think she moved at all. My brain just told me there was something alive over there. You wouldn’t believe how happy she was to see her mom.”

Sweet relief and a big “thank you Jesus”! So thankful Cece is back where she belongs safe and sound. Let’s hope not all our calves are this exciting! :)
